At the height of the Renaissance, when Moresco experienced its heyday, the village was enriched with churches and artworks. One of these is the Chiesetta di San Lorenzo Vecchia, nestled in greenery just at a short distance from the ancient Church of Santa Sofia. It houses a valuable altarpiece dedicated to St. Lawrence the Martyr, the village’s patron saint.
Built by the municipality in the second half of the 18th century as a burial place at the behest of Cardinal Parracciani, the church was the site of longstanding religious traditions: until 1908, the eve and octavary service of the patronal feast were celebrated there.
Today, although the church is no longer used for religious services, it remains a charming stop, closely tied to the deep devotion of the village.
